About Us

A4YA is the only dedicated organization working on behalf of young adults and addressing their specific concerns.

Founded by Shawn Young in 2007, Advocates for Young Adults intends to function as the “AARP” for the Young Adult population. While initially focused on developing content and teaching classes, A4YA now aims to:

  • Develop the ability to offer discounted products & services to members
  • Provide quality content and refer young adults to additional resources for quality content
  • Generate awareness on policy issues that directly affect young adults
  • Act to ensure the continuation of quality programs and services from other service providers for the young adult population.

Items to note on our website:

Benefits & Services
A4YA will pursue discounted products and services for our members. Our goal is to focus on items that assist in alleviating stress (primarily financial) and facilitating a healthy life.

Educational Materials
A4YA has a very specific approach to educational materials that are beneficial for young adults’ survival. The development of Fundamental Life Skills was inspired by an impulse to help working adults understand the basic concepts fundamental to survival in today’s society – Civic Education, Financial Education and Professional Development. Recently, A4YA added Health Education as one of our Fundamental Life Skills.

About Us - Continued

Having reached the conclusion that all four components are intricately interwoven, A4YA developed a conversational approach to teaching that allows participants to recognize:

1. How development in one of these categories can facilitate development of the other categories.

2. That by strengthening our understanding of the system in which we live, we can reduce stress in personal lives and increase productivity at home and in the workplace.

A4YA not only directs participants to the best content available on the market, we also work with organizations to develop and improve content.

Advocacy & Issues
There are numerous policy issues that directly affect the young adult population. A4YA will keep young adults informed by posting these issues on our site for participants to review and to allow room for commentary.

Glossary
Through our work, we can safely say that the number one factor in life skill success lies in the comprehension of terms from the various fields. The language surrounding any new field can be daunting and overwhelming, hopefully our glossary will help shed a little light on terms with which participants might find themselves unfamiliar.

FEEDBACK
We hope you take the time to explore our site. Please send us your thoughts, ideas, concerns or praise to ally@a4ya.org. We anticipate our site and our service to be a work in progress, constantly undergoing review and improvement. Every voice helps.
