We are excited to begin planning our first free Public Art Activation project – The Ocean is Calling. This shadow theatre journey will take place at Fountain Alley in Downtown San Jose. The project is the vision of Lead Artist Michele Guieu and is being designed in collaboration with Artists Corinne Takara and Lauren Cage.

The project will be implemented over 4 consecutive Fridays with 4 areas of focus:

October 26, 2018 – Plankton                                                                                       November 2, 2018 – Extinct Species (Day of the Dead)
November 9, 2018 – Life on the Coral Reef                                                              November 16, 2018 – Plastic Pollution

Come dive into the Ocean and participate in activities that bring light to a unique, essential, and fragile world, one that we barely know yet depend on for our survival. You will learn about this beautiful and rich world: what lives within it, the damage being done to it, what has been lost, and what we can do to protect it and help it thrive.

Create your own beautiful ocean themed shadow puppets, shadow costumes, and more. Use them in our small shadow theatres, perform on our large illuminated stage, or simply watch the beauty of the ocean unfold before you. Take some time to reflect on this amazing underwater world, the challenges it faces, and what it needs from us to flourish.

We will be sharing more on each night’s theme over the next month. Mark your calendars and join us on this incredible adventure!
